Triple H Becomes 13-time World Champion

Triple H Becomes 13-time World Champion

Just as he did at Now Way Out in 2008, Triple H outlasted five other Superstars to emerge victorious from the Elimination Chamber. The win earned him Edge’s WWE Championship and made The Game a 13-time World Champion. The Cerebral Assassin had to do battle with SmackDown’s elite Superstars who all wanted gold, including Undertaker, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov and Jeff Hardy. Edge and Hardy were the first combatants to do battle. In less than five minutes, Hardy pinned the Rated-R Superstar and immediately made it known, the WWE Championship was there for the taking.

The undefeated Kozlov was the next to enter the fray, followed by Big Show, Triple H and finally Undertaker. In a war of SmackDown’s big men, Kozlov was the first to go down at the hands of The Phenom. Next, The Game took out Big Show after Hardy left The World’s Largest Athlete stunned from a Swanton Bomb. Then, The Deadman downed Hardy with a Tombstone. With the four Superstars eliminated, The Cerebral Assassin and The Phenom squared off for gold. After a brutal back-and-forth struggle, it was The Game who reigned supreme. The Game pinned Undertaker after a hard-hitting Pedigree in the brutal encounter and won the world title for the 13th time.

ECW Champion Jack Swagger Defeated Finlay

Jack Swagger Defends Title Against Finlay

Jack Swagger Defends Title Against Finlay

In front of the thunderous capacity crowd at No Way Out, ECW Champion Jack Swagger triumphed over Finlay to retain his ECW Championship. Although the Belfast Brawler hoped that Irish eyes would be smiling upon him in his quest for gold at the end of the rainbow, it was the new face of ECW that would have the last laugh.

The ultimate match between the technically-sound champion and “The Man who Loves to Fight” proved to be an extremely hard-fought battle from the beginning. Finlay showed incredible intestinal fortitude, fighting back with fierce guts and nearly unstoppable heart as the self-proclaimed “Wrestling Prodigy” punished his arm. But after hurling Finlay into Hornswoggle, sending Finlay’s son to the floor, Swagger hit his challenger with a gutwrench powerbomb for the victory. Jack Swagger continues his jubilant success at the top of the Land of the Extreme. But Finlay is never one to take defeat lightly.

Shawn Michaels Defeated JBL (All or Nothing Match)

Shawn Micheals Def. JBL

Shawn Micheals Def. JBL

After months of fighting a moral battle within himself as JBL’s employee, Shawn Michaels finally broke free from the grasp of the self-made millionaire. Playing the time-tested tune of Sweet Chin Music, HBK defeated his former boss, John Bradshaw Layfield, to win their All or Nothing Match. Preserving ownership of his namesake and earning himself a “buyout” from JBL, The Showstopper is now no longer under contract to the Longhorn Loudmouth.

The economy has been hard on all of us in the WWE Universe, and HBK was no exception, which placed him in an unfortunate predicament regarding the well-being of himself and his family. As always, the business connoisseur that JBL is, he stepped in to lend an unlikely helping hand to The Showstopper, fully aware that acquiring the services of a living legend such as Michaels would be quite beneficial in attempting to become World Champion once again. Given his financial turmoil, HBK had no choice but to accept the offer from JBL with his family in mind, but he never knew that it would be so hard and that his sense of morality would be put to its limits.

Finally, just weeks ago on Raw, Layfield offered HBK the release from his contract, as well as a full payment of what is left owed on the contract, but in return, his name and likeness would be on the line for the self-proclaimed “wrestling god” to win in an All or Nothing Match. Seemingly with no other choice, Michaels accepted the challenge and the chance to be free from the tyrannical reign of JBL as his employer, but when that fateful night came at No Way Out, it was anything but easy. When all the dust settled, HBK stood tall once again with his wife Rebecca close by his side, keeping his name from exploitation and defeating the Longhorn Loudmouth with a pin in the center of the ring after connecting with Sweet Chin Music.

Randy Orton Defeated Shane McMahon (No Holds Barred Match)

Randy Orton Def. Shane McMahon

Randy Orton Def. Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon hoped to use his No Holds Barred Match against Randy Orton as an opportunity to exact vengeance upon the venomous Superstar, who had recently injured his father with a vicious punt. Unfortunately for Shane O’Mac, it was the Legend Killer who dealt out the most serious damage, winning the contest and cementing his legacy at the expense of the McMahons’. Showcasing his mean streak, the viper Randy Orton wasn’t content to simply pin his opponent. The Legend Killer took full advantage of the contest’s No Holds Barred stipulations to batter Shane McMahon with sickening ferocity, even enlisting the help of his “Legacy,” Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, who assaulted McMahon as Orton lay prone. Despite Shane O’Mac’s best efforts, including an attempted elbow through the announce table, the Legend Killer stole the win with an RKO to the charging McMahon.

In spite of his current position of Executive Vice President, Shane McMahon also boasts an impressive in-ring history, having participated in numerous matches, many of them with extreme stipulations. But Shane O’Mac’s extensive history as a risk-taker wasn’t enough to put down his brutal opponent. After clobbering Orton with a steel chair, McMahon prepared to mete out some poetic justice, lining the Legend Killer up for a punt to the skull. But at the last second, the viper struck, connecting with a lightning-fast RKO that incapacitated Shane McMahon, who fell in and out of consciousness as he was taken to a local medical facility. Randy Orton walked into No Way Out with the entire WWE Universe against him, having put two members of WWE’s most prominent and powerful family out of commission, the Legacy of Orton and his fellow multi-generational Superstars seems all but secured.

Edge Wins World Heavyweight Title (Elimination Chamber Match)

Edge Loses WWE Championship But Becomes World Heavyweight Champion

Edge Loses WWE Championship But Becomes World Heavyweight Champion

Despite letting the WWE Championship slip from his clutches to The Game hours earlier, the Rated-R Superstar found his way back in at No Way Out. The Ultimate Opportunist forcibly, yet masterfully, manipulated entry into Raw’s Elimination Chamber Match to capture the World Heavyweight Title. Originally, Edge was not even a thought in the focused mind of Raw’s gold bearer, John Cena. When The Champ touched down in Seattle, he had already formulated the best plan of defense for each of his five qualified challengers – Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Mike Knox and Chris Jericho – not to mention arguably the most perilous foe in this instance, the Chamber itself.

No one – especially Cena – could have foreseen the treachery unfurled by the Rated-R Superstar at No Way Out. The defeated former WWE Champion made prey of Kingston, who likely beamed earlier in the locker room area for his first-ever World Title opportunity. The Ultimate Opportunist found just that, assaulting the Jamaican Superstar and substituting himself in his second Elimination Chamber bout of the night. The Master of the 619 initiated combat with Jericho, a participant in the original match of this kind in 2002. Soon after, Mysterio pinned another Chamber veteran in Kane, while Jericho dispersed of No. 4 entrant, the Desert Destroyer. Following Edge, The Champ was last to join, but was quickly dispatched after a Code Breaker, 619 and spear from the Rated-R intruder, who locked Cena up for a pin.

An inspiringly valiant effort by Mysterio became abruptly eclipsed as the high-flyer was propelled into the pod encasement, head on. Reeling from this blow plus the entirety of the grueling six-man scuffle, the dazed Master of the 619 turned right into a body-contorting spear from the Master Manipulator. And with that, Edge’s grin grew wide as his waist grew heavy with Raw’s gold. It was the first time both the WWE and World Heavyweight Titles were defended within the chain link entrapment known as the Elimination Chamber in a single evening. In a spin of irony, Edge not only competed in the pair, but also wore both of the squared circle’s most coveted titles.

David Beckham, in action against Spain, on his 108th England appearance

David Beckham at last equaled 1966 Football World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore’s record of 108 England caps for an outfield player on Wednesday night, 11 February 2009. But the international match against Spain did not go England’s way. Spain’s David Villa made goal in the 35th minute, to give Spain a 1-0 lead. Spanish substitute Fernando Llorente scored a goal by head to take the score to 2-0 and beyond England’s grasp.

David Beckham revealed, he was honoured to share the record of most capped outfield player for England, with one of his Heroes, Bobby Moore. Beckham admitted to be a little disappointed as England lost their first game in eleven months. He said he was honoured to make it 108, but winning games is more important than caps.

In some other friendly matches, Norway beat Germany after 73 years. While Didier Drogba ensured Ivory Coasts draw against Turkey.

Red Bull Launched 2009 Formula 1 Car – The RB5

11 02 2009
Red Bulls 2009 Formula 1 Car The RB5

Red Bull's 2009 Formula One Car - The RB5

Red Bull’s 2009 Formula One Car, The RB5, was revealed in low-key fashion in the Jerez circuit pit-lane on February 09, 2009 (Monday morning). Red Bull Racing’s yellow-red-and-blue-liveried Formula One car, The RB5, made its debut at a circuit in southern Spain.

The car was unveiled by Australian Racer Mark Webber, currently out of action after breaking his leg in a cycling accident late last year. Driver Sebastian Vettel navigated it out of the garage into pit lane and after a handful of laps reported that it was running fine. “It’s good that we got the car running without any major problems, but it’s much too early to say anything about performance,” he said.

Principal of the team Christian Horner said the recently-made changes to racing rules gave teams an opportunity to compete on a more level playing field. Red Bull’s new vehicle has been designed by Red Bull’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey.

The RB5’s design encompasses the wide-ranging regulation changes that have been brought in to cut costs and boost overtaking for the 2009 season, and Adrian Newey admitted it has been quite a challenge.

A quick glance at the new Red Bull’s nose immediately marks it out from its rivals, with a higher and narrower nosecone than that seen on other teams’ cars to date. The RB5 also features what should be a more powerful engine, after Renault were allowed to make modifications to their V8 over the winter in order to help equalise outputs.

The team is confident the Renault-powered machine, again designed by Adrian Newey, will allow them to improve on their seventh place in the 2008 standings and perhaps even bring them their maiden win in 2009.

Specs released on Red Bull’s Website say the racer will draw power from a 2400cc Renault RS27 engine. The V8 unit (8 cylinders) revs to 18,000 rpm. The chassis is a composite structure.

Australian Rule In ODIs Ends

9 02 2009

For long Australia has been ruling Cricket World in both Test and One Day International Formats. At last days of Australian Rule in Cricketing World are over. South Africa defeated Australia to not only clinch ODI Series, but also overthrown Australian Rule from ICC Cricketing World. South Africa overcame odds in this 5-match series, defeating Australia 4-1.

South Africa scored 288/6 (power by Hashim Amla who hit an elegant 97, while AB de Villiers made 60 and Jean-Paul Duminy lashed 60 not out off just 42 balls) in the fifth and last ODI in the series. To save their long-lasting No. 1 spot, Australia had to chase 289 in 50-over math, at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Ground. Left-arm fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe sizzled on debut with four wickets as South Africa beat Australia by 39 runs in the fifth One-day International.

Tsotsobe removed Shaun Marsh (5) and Australian Captain Ricky Ponting (12) in successive overs. South African bowler Morne Morkel removed Vice-captain Michael Clarke (0) to leave Australia struggling at 3/35 in the 9th over. David Warner’s (22) added more misery to the hosts. Michael Hussey (78) and Wicket-keeper Batsman Brad Haddin (63) led the Australian fight-back with their patient innings but it was cut short again by Tsotsobe who dismissed Michael Hussey for his third wicket of the evening. South African Captain Johan Botha and Jean-Paul Duminy kept things tight at the other end to keep the run flow in check. Duminy picked up the important wicket of Micheal Hussey’s Brother, David Hussey (32), while Tsotsobe claimed Mitchell Johnson for his four-wicket haul as the Australians crumbled to 249/10.

Australia dropped in ICC ODI Ranking after series defeat against South Africa. Australia have 122 Rating points, while South Africa have 125 Rating points. Hence South Africa now tops ICC ODI Rankings, beating Australia. It will be nice to see if South Africa are able to prolong their new-found Cricket Rule.

Cricket South Africa must be pleased with this performance of Proteas against Aussies. Cricket Australia definitely have to sort out matters, if Aussies want to glorify again as No. 1 in the Cricketing World. It will be really hard for Ricky Ponting’s fans all over the world, to be in this disastrous situation. But it is good for Cricket development and will boost interest other Cricketing Nations.

Hungarian Grand Prix Reaches 45 Degrees

21 08 2008

Nothing like a shower of bubbly

Heikki Kovalainen was covered in the sweet victory of bubbly at the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix after teammate Lewis Hamilton suffered tyre problems and race leader Felipe Massa bit the dust with only three laps to go before his engine failed.

The fifth place for Hamilton meant that his hopes of extending his world championship points were wrecked, but Hamilton was gallant about it all:

“Congratulations to my team-mate on his deserved first grand prix victory. It was nowhere near as bad as it could have been as we could have had Kimi and Felipe [ahead of us]. The race could have been better for me. My start was OK but Felipe’s was better and he managed to overtake me. My lap times were good and I kept the gap slightly small. With our strategy we still had the chance to pass him but the damaged tyre destroyed my race. I don’t know why it happened but at least I scored some points, so the result was not too bad for me.”

The tyre was reportedly damaged when it grazed a sidewall.

The temperature outside rose at one point to 45 degrees whilst Brazilian Felipe Massa took the lead from Hamilton in a flawless display of driving skill, until his engine died.

Timo Glock was in the race after a nasty crash in Hockenheim a fortnight earlier that saw him leave in an ambulance. A few days later Glock was back. Glock drove brilliantly and finished second in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Glock explained:

“It is just unbelievable after the race in Hockenheim and the big crash. I could not believe it when I saw Felipe’s engine go and I was second. I was under pressure from Kimi, with soft tyres and I was struggling quite a lot. We knew since Friday that the soft tyres would be difficult. I had a really good car. It was perfect until the last stint. Unbelievable, in my first year.”

Calzaghe Confirms Last Fight Will Be With Jones Not Pavlik

20 08 2008

Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr fight will go down in November

Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr fight will go down in November

Amidst speculation that Calzaghe’s fight against American legend Roy Jones Jr. at Madison Square Garden in November will not be his last, the Welsh boxing legend has made it clear that he has no intention of coming out of retirement to fight Pavlik.

Calzaghe explained: “We tried to get Pavlik to fight me after the Jeff Lacy fight and he declined it because he wanted to fight for the middleweight title. And I think we asked him again after he won the title, but he declined again. I think he is possibly just trying to get publicity off the back of me.

Obviously. everyone wants a pay day, but he will have to go and find it somewhere else. This guy has just started and you can’t talk about him as a great fighter because to be that you have to fight great names and reign for a long time, which he has not done. Roy Jones is a legend, and that is the difference.”

The Pride of Wales

The Welsh boxing legend has given the world spectacular fights that will not be forgotten. Calzaghe explains why he is ready to hang up his gloves for good after the superfight with Jones:

“I’ve achieved everything I wanted to achieve. The one thing that is missing is to fight at Madison Square Garden. I’m fighting one of the best fighters of the last 20 years at the mecca of boxing. There is no way I am going to get beaten in my last fight. To go down in history as an undefeated world champion means so much to me.”

Calzaghe’s father and trainer, Enzo has stated:

“This last fight is more important than his first fight. He will not be taking any chances because I won’t allow it. This fight is his dream and without it I don’t think he would have been fulfilled.”

Tickets for the Calzaghe vs Jones fight are breaking sales records with ring side seats at £4000 and climbing. Everyone and their mother wants to see Calzaghe’s last fight, and that includes celebrities with plenty of money to burn.

Not Hard Nut UK West Ham United Football Hooligans in US?

23 07 2008

The media has been having a feeding frenzie over an alledged out-break of West Ham football hooliganism in the US between the infamous West Ham Inter City Firm and US Columbus Crew supporters, but is this a case of media hype?

What really happened in Columbus, Ohio?

Columbus Crew Supporter bloggers have debunked the media’s claims, reporting that the supposed West Ham hooligans were 100% drunken Americans and that the fight erupted because security was too concerned with fans playing with party streamers to notice the group of 15 to 20 highly inebriated individuals shouting racial epithets as they moved in on their rival Columbus Crew supporters, washing the crowd in beer. The media has been playing up the influence of the film Green Street in which Frodo Baggins hobbit actor Elijah Wood becomes a die-hard West Ham football hooligan. The US Columbus Crew supporters alledegdly formed a unit of their own called the Hudson Street Hooligans after watching the film.

Apparently the altercation was over in a matter of minutes.

The irony of American wannabe West Ham football hooligans coming head to head with their makers - real West Ham United hard-nuts – in the flesh has made for a lot of spilled ink and filled up a lot of internet ether.

After the incident a banner was unfurled from the stands that read “ICF, 30 Years Undefeated”. ICF stands for the infamous Inter City Firm featured in the film Green Street.

Bloggers who claim to be ex-West Ham hooligans have posted comments that the ICF is over and that “only a few sad old gits meet up and have little scraps”.

Journalists know that blood makes for good copy and get worked up into a frenzy at the sight of it. As everyone knows pre-season is hell and even the best man, woman, or child can get bored to tears watching these types of games. So the media bit and blew things out of proportion like they so often do. It is the nature of the beast.

Calzaghe v Jones Fight On Ice Due to Injured Wrist

23 07 2008

Joe Calzaghe’s father and trainer, Enzo, has announced that his son has sprained his wrist hitting pads and will need up to three weeks recovery time. “When he woke up with a swollen wrist I looked at it and it looked bloody awful,” he said.

Throughout Calzaghe’s 15 year career hand injuries have been the cause of numerous fight postponements. The Calzaghe vs. Jones super fight may take place in November if US cable network giant HBO is able to agree on a suitable television slot.

Calzaghe has announced repeatedly that the Jones fight will be his last. However, Calzaghe has not relinquished the WBO world super-middleweight title he won against Chris Eubank in 1997 which has lead many to speculate that Calzaghe may defend the title next year.

Before Calzaghe split with promoter Frank Warren talks had been held between Warren and Bob Arum, promoter of world middleweight champion, Kelly Pavlik, regarding an October 18th contest between Calzaghe and Pavlik. The October date is now set for a fight between Pavlik and the former champion Bernard Hopkins in Atlantic City.

Victory for Pavlik against Hopkins would build Pavlik’s reputation and open up the possibility of a challenge for Calzaghe’s 12st WBO super-middleweight title.

After the Calzaghe v Jones fight we may not have seen the last of the Pride of Wales.
